Torq is a WhatsApp service that helps people sense-check used-car listings. You send us a car — a listing link or a registration plate — and we reply with what the live market says about it. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use Torq (over WhatsApp or on this website), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. It is written to meet the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Torq is operated by NetX Labs Ltd ("Torq", "we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales under company number 11348776 and the data controller responsible for your personal data. You can reach us about privacy at info@gettorqing.com.
When you send a registration plate, we retrieve vehicle and MOT data for it from official sources (the DVLA and DVSA) and compare it against our own database of live market listings. This is data about a vehicle, not about you, but we describe it here for transparency.
| Purpose | Lawful basis (UK GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Answer your queries and deliver the Torq service over WhatsApp | Performance of a contract with you |
| Apply free-tier limits, secure the service, and prevent abuse | Our legitimate interests (running a sustainable, secure service) |
| Maintain conversation history so follow-up questions have context | Performance of a contract / legitimate interests |
| Understand and improve how the website and service are used | Consent (analytics cookies) |
| Measure and improve our advertising | Consent |
| Comply with legal and regulatory obligations | Legal obligation |
Torq operates on the WhatsApp Business Platform. When you message us, your messages are delivered through WhatsApp, which is provided by Meta. Meta's handling of your messages in transit is governed by its own terms and privacy policy. We only use your WhatsApp number to reply to you and run the service — we will not send you unrelated marketing on WhatsApp without your consent. You can stop using Torq at any time, and ask us to delete your data (see Your rights).
To interpret your question and write a reply, the content of your message (which may include a listing link or a registration plate) is processed by one or more third-party large-language-model providers acting as our data processors under contract. These providers generate the response on our behalf and are not permitted to use your messages to train their models.
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers (processors) that make Torq work:
| Provider | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Meta Platforms (WhatsApp) | Delivers messages between you and Torq; advertising measurement on the website (only with consent) |
| Large-language-model provider(s) | Generate the answer to your query (see section 5) |
| Supabase | Database hosting for your account, messages, and market data |
| Application & website hosting | Run the Torq backend and serve this website |
| PostHog | Product and website analytics (EU-hosted; only with consent) |
| DVLA / DVSA | Official sources we query for vehicle and MOT data on the plates you send |
We may also disclose data where required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Torq, our users, or others.
Some of our providers process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on an approved safeguard — such as the UK's adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum to EU Standard Contractual Clauses — so your data receives an equivalent level of protection.
We keep your account and message data for as long as your account is active and you continue to use Torq. If you ask us to delete your data, or after a prolonged period of inactivity, we delete or anonymise it, except where we need to retain limited records to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes. Aggregated, anonymised market and analytics data — which no longer identifies you — may be kept indefinitely.
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
To exercise any of these, contact us at info@gettorqing.com. We will respond within the timeframes the law requires. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.
On first visit, this website asks for your cookie choice. Essential storage needed to run the site is always on. Analytics and advertising cookies — used by PostHog and the Meta Pixel — only load if you tap Accept. If you decline, no analytics or advertising tracking runs, and no campaign attribution is attached to your WhatsApp link. You can change your mind by clearing this site's data in your browser and reloading.
Torq is intended for car buyers aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and access controls on our systems. No online service can be completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe and to act quickly if anything goes wrong.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, let you know. Continuing to use Torq after a change means you accept the updated policy.
